Petite Fleur Studio (Alice Potter)

Alice Potter’s path to textile design began after earning her BA in Textile Design from Chelsea College of Art and Design. After a few years exploring different creative avenues, she found herself immersed in a successful illustration career - working on editorial projects, private commissions, and book design. It was during this time that Alice started experimenting with surface pattern design alongside her illustration work and quickly discovered a deep passion for it, describing it as something she “felt really good at.”

After gaining experience designing for a handful of studios, Alice took the leap and launched her own studio, Petite Fleur Studio, in 2022. Today, she specialises in playful, expressive prints for children's wear, stationery, and home décor. Alongside running her studio, Alice continues to nurture her love for illustration, regularly creating artwork for children’s books.
When asked what she enjoys most about print design, Alice shares that she finds the “creative process really fun” - from initial research and early sketchbook ideas to developing a final design. But what truly stands out for her is seeing her work come to life on finished products. “It’s validating and makes me sure that I am on the right path, doing the right things,” she says. That moment of seeing her designs out in the world is what continues to fuel her passion and creative drive.
Understanding a designer’s unique style often begins with exploring their creative process - and for Alice, it all starts with staying in tune with the evolving trends in kidswear. She regularly explores what’s on the market each season, using these insights to identify recurring themes that spark new ideas. Her sketchbook is a hub of rough concepts and spontaneous doodles that often evolve into fully realised print designs.

Alice brings her ideas to life digitally, working primarily in Adobe Illustrator and drawing directly with her Wacom tablet. From the outset, each design is created with production in mind: polished, professional, and ready to print to industry standards.
When it comes to sharing her work online, Alice is an advocate for The Pattern Cloud. “I love the process of uploading to TPC - it’s so straightforward. Having the option to add mock-ups easily is fantastic, and I think it really elevates the designs within my portfolio.”
Más Color Pattern Studio (Mayte Baque)
Mayte Baque’s journey into the world of print design began during her studies in Fashion and Textile Design at Universidad Argentina de la Empresa (UADE) in Buenos Aires, where she studied from 2010 to 2014. It was here that her passion for surface design first took root. Determined to deepen her knowledge, Mayte went on to complete a Master’s in Textile and Surface Design at Istituto Europeo di Design (IED) in Madrid in 2019 - an experience that marked a turning point, shifting her focus fully from fashion to textile and surface design.

Today, Mayte runs her studio, Más Color Pattern Studio, where she blends her love for bold illustration with a keen eye on global trends. Inspired primarily by nature - particularly flowers - her work is vibrant, expressive, and always evolving to reflect contemporary tastes.
When asked what she enjoys most about print design, Mayte lights up at the idea of seeing her work out in the world. “I love the illustration phase, and seeing the client happy is always rewarding,” she shares, “but what I enjoy the most is spotting my prints being worn or used by someone who chose a product because of a design I created. That’s the real magic for me.”
Mayte’s creative process begins with research - gathering inspiration and developing a concept, usually by building moodboards and studying trend reports. From there, she dives into the illustration stage, working both digitally on her iPad using Procreate, and by hand with markers or coloured pencils depending on the desired style. Once the artwork is complete, she moves into the digital development phase, refining scale and layout to ensure each print is both visually impactful and suitable for its end use. To support this stage, Mayte regularly uses The Pattern Cloud’s mock-up features to accurately preview scale and confirm visual alignment with the final product.

For Mayte, technical precision and artistic flair go hand in hand. “It’s important to me that the design doesn’t just look beautiful - it needs to work well in context,” she explains. This balance between creativity and functionality is at the heart of every print she produces.
